Today, Kevin McCarthy is set to join MAGA extremist Yvette Herrell for a “campaign announcement.” Unfortunately for Herrell, she has already proven she is unwilling and unable to effectively represent New Mexicans in Congress:
One of Yvette Herrell’s first votes in Congress was to throw out Americans’ votes and overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Herrell described the support of MAGA extremist and Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin as the endorsement she was ‘most proud of.’ Later, a federal judge convicted Griffin for his participation in the January 6th insurrection. Griffin, founder of Cowboys for Trump, had previously made waves when he proclaimed ‘the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.’
Despite representing the largest Latino community in the state, the Boston Globe reports Herrell pushed the same racist ‘replacement theory’ conspiracy that led to the Buffalo mass shooting.
When in Congress, Herrell voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Investment Act which is improving roads, bridges, and waterways in New Mexico, the Inflation Reduction Act which is helping reign in prices and capped insulin at $35 per month for people on Medicare, the American Rescue Plan which helped small businesses stay open during the pandemic and funded local law enforcement, and multiple cost-lowering pieces of legislation.
Herrell signed an amicus brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe and Casey and co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, the federal personhood bill that would ban all abortions and certain types of birth control such as IUDs.
While in the state legislature, Yvette Herrell funneled nearly a half a million in taxpayer dollars to her family’s organization. She attempted to dump potentially toxic sewage into her own district to benefit her waste management company. She also pocketed $440,000 from land she rented to the state and failed to disclose it – a move the Albuquerque Journal called “egregious” and a “betrayal of the public trust.”

“After embracing people like xenophobic Marjorie Taylor Greene and disgraced former President Donald Trump, it’s unsurprising Kevin McCarthy is campaigning alongside MAGA extremist Yvette Herrell. Voters rejected Yvette Herrell in 2022, and they will again in 2024, because she is a proven conspiracy theorist more concerned with partisan politics and protecting wealthy corporations than tackling the real challenges facing everyday New Mexicans.”
