DCCC Statement on Mike Johnson Returning to New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District

Following news that Mike Johnson will be returning to New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District to fundraise with Greg Cunningham, DCCC spokesperson Anna Elsasser released the following statement:

“Alarm bells are ringing for Greg Cunningham. For the second time in less than two months, Cunningham is leaning on Mike Johnson and his extreme D.C. party bosses in a last-ditch effort to save his failing campaign.

“Less than 25 days before the midterm elections, New Mexico families are taking note of Cunningham’s decision to roll out the red carpet for his campaign donors rather than show up for the hardworking families he’s running to represent. New Mexicans can read between the lines: Cunningham is preparing to rubber-stamp an agenda of gutting healthcare, ripping food off families’ tables, and jacking up prices even higher for everyday essentials. New Mexico families will make sure he never sets foot in Washington.”

Catch Up Quick on Greg Cunningham’s Extreme Agenda:

  • Greg Cunningham has said passing Republicans’ reckless agenda is his “number one priority” and that policies like gutting health care and SNAP “are good for the people” of NM-02.
  • Cunningham called New Mexicans losing health care and food assistance they relied upon “enslaved.”
  • Cunningham has backed Republicans’ reckless war-of-choice in Iran, saying “yes, I do support it” and implied New Mexicans struggling with rising costs should just “hang on.”
  • Cunningham said Americans targeted by ICE operations are “collateral damage,” people who show up to protest ICE “have to be dealt with individually,” and that “immigration without assimilation is an invasion.”
  • Cunningham has remained committed to his pledge to end all abortion in New Mexico, saying “I have my beliefs. I will remain consistent to my beliefs.”
