DCCC Statement on Missourians Submitting Nearly 3x the Needed Signatures to Halt Republicans’ Gerrymandered Congressional Map

Following Missourians’ submission of nearly three times the needed signatures to pause Jefferson City Republicans’ gerrymandered congressional map, DCCC Executive Director Julie Merz released the following statement:

Missourians hate Jefferson City Republicans’ desperate attempts to cling to power. Rather than focusing on what people need – lower costs, better economic opportunities, and safer communities – Jefferson City Republicans are trying to split communities, decide future elections, and put their own ambitions ahead of the will of the people.

“With today’s massive signature submission, the map will be paused pending certification of signatures, allowing Missourians to exercise their constitutional right to have the final say over their representatives.

“I’m deeply grateful to the thousands of Missourians who are making their voices heard and the countless advocates who are ensuring voters, not politicians, decide who their leaders are. Missourians have a track record of pushing back against political power grabs. Efforts to stop this blatantly gerrymandered map will be no exception.”
