DCCC Chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney released the following statement on the Supreme Court of The United States overturning Roe v. Wade:
“This is a dark, terrifying day for America and for the tens of millions of women who, today, have lost their fundamental right to decide their own futures. Access to reproductive health care has been eroded across the country for decades, and this devastating final blow to the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion sends our entire country backward. My heart is with every woman who is facing a more frightening version of America than she did yesterday.
“This wrongful decision is the future the Republican Party has worked so hard for. By throwing out 50 years of precedent, five Supreme Court justices just permitted Republicans to enact the nationwide abortion ban they have been hellbent on for decades.
“This decision carries dire consequences that will result in the imprisonment of women and doctors and cost people their lives. The American people overwhelmingly want Roe protected and firmly believe that these personal health care decisions should be left to women and their doctors, yet Republican extremists ignored the clear will of the people.
“Republicans have made their crusade against freedom abundantly clear. House Democrats will never stop fighting to protect our freedoms, our lives, and our democracy from extreme Republican attacks.”
