DCCC Statement on Supreme Court Rejecting Missouri Republicans’ Power Grab

Following news that the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a last ditch attempt by Republicans to silence Missouri voters, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the below statement:

“Today’s denial by the high court affirms a foundational principle of our democracy: voters get to choose who represents them, not politicians.

“Jefferson City Republicans know they can’t win on the issues, so they tried to illegally rig the election before a single vote was cast, and they’ve failed so far. The Supreme Court’s action returns the power to where it belongs — with the people.

“This is a victory for the plaintiffs, advocates, referendum organizers, and countless others who pushed back against Republicans’ desperate attempt to cling to power. Republicans’ stunning refusal to honor the US Supreme Court’s ruling and stage yet another 11th hour attempt to use their illegal map will be quickly dismissed by the courts. We are confident that when given the opportunity this November, Missouri voters will officially reject Republicans’ partisan, gerrymandered map at the ballot box, and return Emanuel Cleaver to Congress.”
