Today, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered Louisiana to redraw their congressional map:
“Today’s Supreme Court order means the people of Louisiana are one step closer to achieving fair representation in Congress that better reflects the state’s diversity and reaffirms that the voices of Black voters matter.
“This order is another reminder of the importance of the Voting Rights Act in ensuring fair representation for all. It sends a strong message that no state should be able to draw discriminatory districts at the expense of communities of color. As with the Alabama Voting Rights Act ruling, today’s decision is another win for constituents fighting for equal representation in their state and is sure to affect other upcoming redistricting cases.”
