DCCC Statement on the Withdrawal of Rep. Stefanik’s Nomination to U.N. Ambassador

Today, DCCC Communications Director Courtney Rice sent the following statement in response to the White House pulling Elise Stefanik’s nomination to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:

“Despite NY-21 being a Trump +20 seat, Republicans and Donald Trump knew they were on track to lose the special election because of their deeply unpopular, disastrous agenda. A few weeks ago, they were too scared to face voters at town halls. Now, they are so scared they can’t even face voters at the polls. Doesn’t bode particularly well for 2026.”

In special election after special election this year – including in Iowa and Pennsylvania – Democrats have overperformed and flipped seats that Trump won by double digits. It’s no surprise Republicans aren’t willing to gamble their so-called mandate in a Trump +20 district.
