DCCC Statement on Trump Lapdog Jay Feely’s New MAGA Branding

“Jay Feely is a Trump lapdog, MAGA extremist, and carpetbagger who’s wildly out of touch with Arizona’s First Congressional District. Feely is more interested in chasing the limelight and being a rubberstamp for Donald Trump than doing the work to lower costs for families. Arizonans can see Feely for the fraud that he is.”

REALITY CHECK: Arizona’s First Congressional District is not MAGA

• AZ-01 voted for Democrats in 2020 by 1.5 points. David Schweikert, then a seventh term incumbent, won by roughly 3,000 votes in 2022.
• Arizona Republic: AZ-01 “has historically preferred more moderate political figures.”
• New York Times: AZ-01 is “brimming with the moderate Republicans who once adored Senator John McCain.” Voters there have a “disdain for Mr. Trump.”
• Recent polling in Arizona shows that Trump’s approval rating fell 17% between February to December 2025, from +3% to -13%. 
• The Cook Political Report lists AZ-01’s political voting index as R+1.
• Polling from YouGov finds just 16% of U.S. citizens identify as “MAGA.”
