DCCC Statement on Virginia Court Rejecting Republican Lawsuit Against Voter-Approved Congressional Map

Today, DCCC Executive Director Julie Merz released the following statement after the Circuit Court for Richmond City sided with the DCCC and rejected a lawsuit brought by the Republican National Committee (RNC) challenging the congressional map that was just approved by Virginia voters:

“This ruling is a victory for the DCCC and for the millions of Virginians who voted to fight back against Donald Trump and Republicans’ efforts to rig the midterm elections through unprecedented mid-decade gerrymandering in partisan state legislatures like Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri – and now Ron DeSantis is trying to force through his own extreme gerrymander in Florida. The Court made it clear in their ruling that Virginians made their voices heard at the ballot box and it is now in the public interest to allow the voter-approved map to take effect. The law is on our side, and the DCCC will continue to stand with Virginians who voted to hold Republicans accountable for their attack against fair representation in Congress.”
