DCCC Statement on Virginia General Assembly Passing Amendment to Protect Fair Elections

Today, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement after the Virginia General Assembly passed an amendment that will allow Virginia voters – not politicians – to decide on a temporary measure to ensure free and fair congressional maps ahead of the 2026 elections:

“Today the Virginia General Assembly took a critical step in giving Virginia voters the opportunity to ensure they have fair and equal representation in Congress. With Donald Trump and Republicans doing everything they can to rig the midterms in their favor through unprecedented mid-decade gerrymandering, Virginians face a real risk of having their voices diminished. Thanks to the General Assembly, Virginians – not politicians – will now have the chance to vote for a temporary, emergency exception that will restore fairness, level the playing field, and stand up to extremists seeking to silence their voices.”
