DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement celebrating the beginning of Women’s History Month:
“Women’s History Month honors and celebrates the trailblazing women who came before us and their contributions in American History. Women’s History Month is also a reminder about the critical need to defend the rights of women and girls across the country, which are under constant assault by far-right extremists – especially when it comes to restoring our constitutional right to reproductive freedom.
“The 118th Congress has a record number of women – more than quarter of both chambers – and we would not be here today without the incredible sacrifices of those who fought for a seat at the table. When Democrats held the House majority, we passed legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act that increased access to good-paying jobs for women nationwide, and the Women’s Health Protection Act to defend reproductive freedoms.
“House Republicans have sought to undo all of these important steps forward. In the first days of their majority, they introduced the Life at Conception Act – dangerous legislation that would impose a national abortion ban and block access to IVF. No matter how they may try to hide their extremism, voters know the truth.
“Only House Democrats will defend women’s rights, and come November, we will take back the House majority to defend reproductive freedoms and enshrine the protections of Roe once and for all.
