Ahead of President Trump’s immigration meeting with House Republicans, DCCC Hispanic Media Director Javier Gamboa issued the following statement:
“Behind closed doors, President Trump and House Republicans are about to weigh the optics and electoral impact of ripping children apart from their parents, putting them in cages and using them as a political prop to cater to the Republican base – and it’s disgusting.
“Beyond the political calculations related to this Trump-made humanitarian crisis, there’s no doubt that House Republicans will fail to reach any satisfactory bipartisan solution to protect DREAMers. The reality is that the two Republican anti-immigrant bills up for debate this week are a shameless sell-outs to the Republican base and would not fix our broken immigration system nor protect DREAMers, and Republicans have repeatedly failed to protect young immigrants for years. House Republicans’ must be defeated at the ballot box in November.”
