DCCC reveals offensive battlefield list, places CA-41 on offensive Districts In Play list
Today, the DCCC revealed its initial Districts In Play for the 2024 cycle and named CA-41, currently represented by Ken Calvert, as an offensive target district that will help Democrats win back the House majority in 2024.
President Biden just narrowly lost CA-41 in 2020 and Ken Calvert won by less than 5 points and was pushed to his limits last cycle, spending his way into debt in order to survive his re-elect. Calvert is extreme and if he opts to run again, Democrats will hold him accountable.
Ken Calvert is a corrupt and extreme MAGA Republican who was taken to his limits in a cycle that was supposed to be favorable to Republicans.
Calvert voted against certifying the 2020 election, even after a deadly insurrection, and stated he hoped the charges against the individuals who stormed our Capitol would be dropped.
While he is eagerly trying to reverse course now that he represents Palm Springs, home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the country, Calvert has a long history of advocating against LGBTQ+ rights. Calvert voted for the federal Defense of Marriage Act and sought to ban same-sex marriage in California. He has also voted against providing LGBTQ+ people with comprehensive protections against discrimination.
Because of his manipulation of earmarks, Calvert has been called one of the most corrupt members of Congress. He pushed through earmarks that garnered him substantial personal profit. Calvert has also been tied up in illegal land deals which led to formal lawsuits for ‘fraud and deceit.’
Calvert has been roundly condemned for his ties to Big Oil, having received hundreds of thousands in campaign donations from the industry.
DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“If Ken Calvert decides to run for reelection in 2024, he will be voted out. Calvert is a corrupt, anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ rights MAGA Republican who has done very little to deliver for his district but has done everything he can to advance an extreme agenda that places partisan investigations, wealthy donors, and politics before everyday families.”
The DCCC is targeting eight districts in California as part of its District In Play list: CA-03, CA-13, CA-22, CA-27, CA-40, CA-41, CA-45, and CA-47.
The DCCC’s Districts In Play are competitive Republican-held or open districts across the nation that are critical battlegrounds as the DCCC works to unseat Republicans and win a Democratic House majority this cycle.
Additionally, this cycle will mark the first time ever that the DCCC has launched nominee fund pages, which allows grassroots donors to donate now to contribute to the eventual Democratic nominee in these Districts In Play.
