DCCC Targets Ryan Zinke in MT-01 as Democrats Plot Path to Majority

DCCC reveals offensive battlefield list, places MT-01 on offensive Districts In Play list

Today, the DCCC revealed its initial Districts In Play for the 2024 cycle and named MT-01, currently represented by Ryan Zinke, as an offensive target district that will help Democrats win back the House majority in 2024.

In 2022, Zinke won MT-01 by less than 5 points and with Zinke and House Republicans’ clear commitment to embracing extremism and putting politics before people, Democrats will be able to target districts like MT-01.

  • Zinke is a notorious anti-abortion lawmaker who has repeatedly voted against abortion access. Zinke has accepted the endorsement of extreme anti-choice groups National Right-to-Life Association and Montana Right-to-Life. This Congress, Zinke voted against consideration of the Women’s Health Protection Act which would codify the reproductive freedoms Roe v. Wade, and has voted to pass anti-choice legislation that could imprison doctors.

  • Zinke – who served as Interior Secretary under the Trump administration – reportedly misused his position to advance a development project in his hometown and failed to disclose details of his involvement when questioned by ethics officials, a federal investigation found.

  • Zinke came under fire in the 2022 campaign after POLITICO reported his wife designated her primary residence as their home in Santa Barbara, California.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“Californian Ryan Zinke has no business representing Montana in Congress. Zinke has shown he thinks the government should decide what a woman does with her own reproductive health, has abused his position of power, and puts his party’s out-of-touch agenda before Montana values. Voters will have every reason to vote him out in 2024.”

The DCCC’s Districts In Play are competitive Republican-held or open districts across the nation that are critical battlegrounds as the DCCC works to unseat Republicans and win a Democratic House majority this cycle.

Additionally, this cycle will mark the first time ever that the DCCC has launched nominee fund pages, which allows grassroots donors to donate now to contribute to the eventual Democratic nominee in these Districts In Play.
