| House Republicans are fleeing for the exits as their microscopic majority rapidly slips away. Democrats are overperforming in special elections by 13.1% on average and swept in the 2025 victories in Virginia and New Jersey, including in the DCCC’s districts in play.
Republicans see the writing on the wall. Here are the retirements to watch as we head into the on-year:
- Mike Rogers, AL-03
- David Valadao, CA-22
- Darrell Issa, CA-48
- Carlos Gimenez, FL-28
- Victoria Spartz, IN-05
- Mike Johnson, LA-04
- Bill Huizenga, MI-04
- Ann Wagner, MO-02
- Sam Graves, MO-06
- Jeff Van Drew, NJ-02
- Chuck Edwards, NC-11
- Mike Turner, OH-10
- Brian Fitzpatrick, PA-01
- Nancy Mace, SC-01
- Tony Gonzales, TX-23
- Rob Wittman, VA-01
“The House Republican Conference is collapsing in real-time as Deputy Speaker Mike Johnson has lost the confidence of his members and surrenders complete control to Donald Trump,” said DCCC National Political Director Brooke Butler. “As Republican Members of Congress head home for the holidays, we expect many of these phonies to also head running for the exits.” |
