Tonight’s debate underscores the clear contrast between anti-abortion extremist Zach Nunn and U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne. No matter how desperately he tries to run away from his long record of extremism, Zach Nunn cannot hide the truth from Iowa voters.
Here are five things Zach Nunn needs to answer for this evening:
Nunn has been trying desperately to hide his support for making all abortions illegal nationwide with no exceptions, but he can’t run away from his record. His stance is out of touch and dangerous for Iowa women and families.
Nunn has been caught lying about Rep. Axne’s support for law enforcement while he introduced a bill in the Iowa State legislature to defund the police. The bill would punish and fine officers $50,000 for trying to do their jobs, keep people safe, and protect communities from illegal guns.
Nunn has repeatedly come out against critical legislation that is bolstering America’s ability to compete with China and will bring manufacturing jobs and supply chains back from overseas. To add insult to injury, he’s accepted campaign contributions from a Chinese government-owned company’s PAC and supported a tax break that benefitted the same Chinese company.
Nunn has repeatedly bashed the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that lowers prescription drug costs and makes health care more affordable. He called the legislation, which caps insulin prices for Medicare beneficiaries at $35 per month, “unbridled government spending.” He clearly has no respect for hard-working Iowa families.
Nunn continues to downplay the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol, disparaging Capitol Police and disrespecting the law enforcement officers who defended our nation’s promise.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Zach Nunn cares more about advancing his own political career than helping hardworking Iowa families. He has shown he’ll do whatever his Washington party bosses ask, even if it hurts Iowans struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, voters know that Cindy Axne will continue to bring sensible, strong leadership and results home for her community.
