Déjà Vu: The Last Time Valadao Voted to Rip Away Health Care from the Central Valley, He Lost His Seat

As Republicans advanced their Tax Scam this morning – we’re looking at David Valadao and his deciding yes vote that reeks of hypocrisy. For months, he promised Californians he wouldn’t touch Medi-Cal. (He even went as far as to sign on to a lip service letter to GOP leadership.)

NEWS FLASH: he lied.

Reminder: This vote hits Valadao’s district the hardest – nearly half of his district’s residents are enrolled in Medicaid. That’s by far the highest proportion of any district in California.

Double Reminder: In 2017, Valadao voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would have kicked millions off their insurance plans and weakened protections for people with pre-existing conditions. That betrayal of Californians’ health care cost him his seat – and this one will too.

Politico wrote: “The outcome of the Medicaid debate carries high stakes not just for the Americans who use it for coverage, but for Valadao and his colleagues’ political futures, too. Valadao knows firsthand the consequences of making the wrong move in the health care debate…Valadao clawed his way back to the House two years later, and now he’s determined not to make the same mistake twice..”

DCCC Spokesperson, Anna Elsasser
“They say history repeats itself, and Valadao clearly hasn’t learned from past mistakes. When you lie to your constituents and vote to rip away Californians’ health care, Californians will vote to rip away your seat.”
