Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) will launch a historic, exclusive column series in ESSENCE Magazine to feature Black women members of Congress and Black women candidates for Congress in the influential magazine’s “In Her We Trust” column series.
Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, kicked-off the series touting the legislative accomplishments of her caucus, the importance of a complete Census Count and the role of Black women in 2020:
“Our democracy is at stake in 2020. I trust Black women to protect it as the most loyal, informed, consistent voting bloc in the United States since 1920. We must harness our collective power to ensure our community is spiritually, socially, politically, and economically empowered.”
“Our country is in good hands because this Caucus reflects the diversity of the country we serve,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos said. “We know what is at stake in this election for communities across this country: affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and a Congress that works for them. In 2020, we will protect the progress we have made and add to the diversity of this historic House Democratic Caucus.”
The series will run through Election Day. Readers can expect to hear from Black women Members of Congress and candidates for Congress that represent the ethnic diversity of the Black community on a range of policy priorities, from gun safety issues to lowering prescription drug prices to improving Black maternal health outcomes.
