Democratic Special Election Overperformance Puts Luna, Mills, and Salazar on Retirement Notice

Democrats in Florida’s SD15 and HD40 overperformed the 2024 vote margin by 22 and 15 points respectively

Last night, Floridians continued their pattern of turning out for Democrats at historic levels, spelling serious trouble for vulnerable Republicans Anna Paulina Luna, Cory Mills, and María Elvira Salazar. RaShon Young won 75% of the vote to win in Florida’s State House District 40 and LaVon Bracy Davis got nearly 73% of the vote, winning State Senate District 15.

Both Democratic candidates overperformed the 2024 vote margin by significantly more than Anna Paulina Luna and Cory Mills won their districts, and RaShon Young’s overperformance outpaced Salazar’s 2024 vote margin.

DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“Luna, Mills, and Salazar ignore the writing on the wall at their own peril. At every turn Democrats have significantly overperformed and this election is simply the latest indication that Floridians are tired of Republicans’ lies, allegations, and false promises. Voters want results – not the lip-service, headline chasing, and scandals that Florida’s Republican delegation delivers. In 2026, Floridians are going to finally show Luna, Mills, and Salazar the door.”
