During day three of the DNC, House Democrats highlight Republican attacks on our fundamental freedoms
On the third day of the DNC, House Democrats are reminding the country that we are fighting for their rights and freedoms as House Republicans continue to try to attack and undermine reproductive rights – pushing the country towards their ultimate goal of a national abortion ban.
House Republicans have used their majority to push a total ban on abortion without exceptions, attempt to ban safe and effective abortion medication, restrict fertility treatments like in vitro fertilization, and target womens’ access to emergency care.
House Republicans are also all in on Trump’s Project 2025, which would similarly restrict abortion care nationwide. Project 2025 calls for attacking access to medication abortion, and proposing the government monitor and collect information about who had abortions and where. Project 2025 would even punish any states that refuse to share that information, and increase the threat of prosecution for abortion care.
In this Congress, House Democrats have fought for legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect abortion access nationwide, as well as legislation to defend IVF and access to contraception. With a majority in the House, Democrats will pass these bills and codify the protections of Roe.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“The American people have repeatedly made their voices heard when it comes to standing up for reproductive freedom – but House Republicans continue to push their far-right, out-of-touch agenda to control women and take away their rights. Voters are going to elect a Democratic House majority in November to codify Roe and stand up for their freedoms once and for all.”
