Today, Sabato’s Crystal Ball and the Cook Political Report announced that they are shifting their predictions for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District from “Toss Up” towards Democrats.
These announcements follow Don Bacon’s decision to not seek another term in Congress as recent polling shows that voters are overwhelmingly opposed to Bacon and Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill that passed the House last month thanks to Bacon’s deciding vote.
This shift also comes as House Republicans are set to once again rubber stamp extremist cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. The Republican Tax Scam would kick more than 23,000 people in NE-02 off of their health care, threaten SNAP access for more than 23,000 families, and take money out of Nebraska farmers’ wallets all to pay for Republicans’ tax giveaways for the richest people in the country.

“Don Bacon’s retirement is just the latest sign of Republicans’ electoral peril. Whoever Republicans manage to convince to run in this seat will have to answer for their party’s massively unpopular legislation that hurts working families, and Nebraskans are taking notice. Democrats are ready to capitalize on this momentum to flip this seat in November.”
