Vulnerable Republican Congressman Jeff Denham represents a competitive Central Valley district where over 42 percent of residents are Latino. But Denham is expected to elect Congressman Paul Ryan, who reportedly promised he wouldn’t bring up immigration reform, as Speaker of the House.
Denham pays lip service to immigration reform, but Denham has been in Congress almost five years and made no progress on comprehensive immigration reform. By electing Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House, Denham will officially give up the fight.
“Actions speak louder than words and Denham’s likely support for anti-immigration reform Speaker Paul Ryan says it all,” said Barb Solish of the DCCC. “Central Valley families have had enough of Denham’s empty promises and will hold him accountable at the ballot box.”
