Derek Merrin’s Statewide Abortion Ban Echoes Arizona’s Draconian Law

Yesterday’s Arizona Supreme Court decision to reinstate its Civil War-era abortion ban in the state has left anti-abortion extremists across the country scrambling to distance themselves from the ruling. Unfortunately for Derek Merrin, his record of backing a similar abortion ban in the Ohio state legislature is clear.

Merrin has been working tirelessly on his own initiative to strip away women’s reproductive freedoms.

• Shepherded the state’s six week abortion ban, which became law in the wake of the Dobbs decision.

• Co-sponsored a total abortion ban from the moment of conception, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

• Championed another total abortion ban that could punish doctors and women with life in prison if they received or performed an abortion.
