- At Congressman Derek Tran’s event at Cal State Fullerton, impacted residents got an opportunity to…ask questions about the crisis.
- Tran said he is working to get federal resources for business owners and residents and hopes the company will compensate people.
- “I’ve called on the company for full accountability in their actions. The CEO assured me that once all of our residents’ safety concerns are taken care of, that they’re going to answer to all of this,” he said in an interview.
- “From a federal standpoint, and from a California response standpoint, I think it’s all of us working together to make sure that if there are any resources for our small businesses, that it’s going to be available for them, and of course, our residents.”
- Tran also said there should be a state and federal investigation into how GKN allowed this to happen and there has to be accountability, adding that he invited company leaders to join the event but they declined.

“I spoke to the CEO yesterday and I told him that I expect him to take full accountability for what has happened. And what that looks like is making sure that residents that were displaced are compensated. The 5,000 businesses that were impacted because of closures and shuttering their doors for that long, the employees that weren’t paid. These are things GKN needs to make up for.”
“I made sure that all of my residents in my communities know that I am here for them. My door is always open. Our offices in Cypress – we were impacted by the evacuation, but that did not stop my phone lines from being connected to my staff’s cell phone, making sure that we were there for our community. So if they have any issues, I need them to continue to call me and ask for help because that’s what we’re here for.”
“I think the highest priority that we all have from the fire chief and my office is the health and safety of all of our residents…Everything that they’ve done since day one of this incident late Thursday night until today has been trending in the right direction…After we make sure that our community is safe, there’s going to be a full investigation into exactly what occurred.”
“My focus right now today, and has been for the last few days, is the health and safety of my community, and once…we have the all-clear I am absolutely gonna call for a deep investigation of what happened and then oversight is definitely on the table.”
