24 days after the Farm Bill expired, and with no talk of passing a new one, some Wisconsin dairy farmers are blasting Congressman Derrick Van Orden for leaving them behind.
Instead of advocating for the 30,300 dairy jobs in his district, Van Orden has stood with corporations and special interests, opposing legislation that would lower the cost of prescription drugs for Wisconsin families.
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Take it from Wisconsin dairy farmers: instead of fighting for a Farm Bill that would prioritize Wisconsin families and farmers, Derrick Van Orden is more concerned with delivering for big corporations and pushing an extreme agenda.”
Farming is a tough business, and when we have a member of Congress who doesn’t look out for us, it becomes even tougher. That’s why Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s record of prioritizing the wealthy and big corporations is so troubling — and why he needs to do better.
Wisconsin’s farmers need a champion more than ever, but so far Van Orden has failed to deliver anything other than empty slogans.
Just days after he took office, Van Orden crowned himself the “Cheese King” of Congress, but dairy farmers like me are still waiting to see the results of his self-appointed royalty. Despite being a member of the House Agriculture Committee, which writes the Farm Bill and has immense power to make things better for our industry, Van Orden hasn’t listened.
We need a Farm Bill that looks out for smaller farmers and cracks down on the unwarranted expansion of the largest operations…But despite raising these concerns with Van Orden’s office, he hasn’t included amendments to help small farms in the Farm Bill and hasn’t stood up to the big corporations who are using the current policies to put family farms out of business.
Dairy farmers, and anyone who values the economy in rural Wisconsin, has to demand better from Van Orden. We’re waiting for him to stand up to big corporations and fight for working families who make the Third District what it is today.
