The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion for millions of women and undoing 50 years of precedent. It’s a future that Derrick Van Orden has been working toward for years – and now he will have to own up to his extreme, deeply unpopular positions. Van Orden says he’s “100% pro-life” and compared abortion to “genocide.”
Make no mistake: Derrick Van Orden and the Republican Party are on the wrong side of this issue. Polling conducted after the leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion overturning Roe shows: by a two-to-one margin, people oppose Roe being overturned; 80% of people believe abortion should be decided between a woman and her doctor; and nearly two-thirds of people oppose the GOP’s plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
Van Orden will be held accountable for his party’s role in decimating women’s reproductive freedoms and their plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn:
“Derrick Van Orden and his party bear responsibility for the devastating Supreme Court decision eliminating the constitutional right to an abortion for millions of women. It’s a future Van Orden has worked toward for years – and we will remind Wisconsin voters of his cruel extremism and effort to take away their freedoms every day until November.”
