| For months, Zach Nunn has made big promises about delivering year-round E15.
Newsflash: he hasn’t.
The recently announced temporary waiver fails to live up to the promises Nunn made to Iowa farmers, after he abandoned all leverage he had on passing E-15 by rolling over and refusing to stop Republicans from stripping it out of a must-pass spending bill.
Key points from the Des Moines Register:
“Earlier that month, federal lawmakers stripped a year-round E15 measure from a budget bill, instead forming a task force on the issue.”
“That group…was tasked with bringing a biofuels bill to the House floor by Feb. 25. But that deadline passed without a breakthrough.”
“The issue could be a political liability for Iowa Republicans going into a contentious midterm election if a resolution isn’t reached.”
“Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott, who is running for Congress in Iowa’s 3rd District, criticized incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn of failing to deliver for Iowans.”
“’Gas prices are skyrocketing across Iowa and across the country, but today’s temporary waiver only highlights Zach Nunn’s failure to deliver year-round E15,’” Trone Garriott said in a statement. ‘Zach Nunn is all talk and no action, and Iowans deserve better than his broken promises and sorry excuses.’”
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“While gas prices skyrocket across Iowa, Zach Nunn continues to fail at passing year-round E15 after caving to his party bosses and abandoning his leverage. All Nunn has is broken promises and pathetic excuses because he’s too afraid to stand up to his party to actually get things done for Iowa.” |
