In the latest sign that Jim Desmond has nothing but empty words to run on as he continues to back policies squeezing San Diegans’ wallets, his latest campaign ad has resorted to running blatant lies about… “Marini” von Wilpert.

That’s right: Desmond, who continues to “run one of the most low-key campaigns imaginable,” can’t even bother to spell Marni von Wilpert’s name right, and he sure can’t be bothered to fact-check his own ad.
REMINDER: While Desmond is spouting lies about von Wilpert, Desmond is the very picture of an ethics complaint. Desmond voted to increase taxpayer-funded six-figure salaries for elected figures like himself, spent roughly $250,000 in taxpayer dollars on a lavish remodel of his office, and was the sole vote against capping his own travel expenses. If padding his wallet with taxpayer dollars wasn’t enough, Desmond also regularly accepted campaign cash while voting for his donors’ interests. Sitting atop his stacks of taxpayer and special interest cash, Desmond told San Diegans struggling with skyrocketing gas prices, “no pain, no gain.”
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“All the MAGA money in the world can’t cover up the fact that Jim Desmond has backed every policy raising costs on San Diegans — all while raising taxpayer-funded salaries for elected officials like him. A tip for our friends across the aisle: don’t run ads that blatantly lie about ethics while Desmond has spent his career living lavishly on taxpayer and MAGA dollars. And use spellcheck.”
