Despite Expired Farm Bill & Government Shutdown on the Line, Van Orden In No Rush For New Speaker

As the Farm Bill goes on 18 days of being expired, a government shutdown looms in exactly one month, and U.S. allies continue to be in need of critical aid, Derrick Van Orden is in no rush to get back to work for Wisconsinites amid his party’s infighting.

As the chaotic and dysfunctional House Republicans put critical legislation on the back burner, Van Orden claims “it doesn’t matter how long this goes” because he “can do this forever.”

Wisconsin families might feel differently. As dysfunctional House Republicans once again drive the country toward a government shutdown and stay silent on the expired Farm Bill, hardworking Wisconsinites could pay the price – including veterans who rely on critical services, active duty military and firefighters who will be forced to work without pay, and dairy farmers who could lose out on essential monthly payments.

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:

“Between voting for extreme conspiracy theorist Jim Jordan for speaker and saying it doesn’t matter if Congress can’t pass critical legislation, Derrick Van Orden’s priorities in Congress are clear: embolden extremists and do nothing for Wisconsin families.”
