Dina Titus Fights to Reverse GOP’s Anti-Gambling Provision in Big, Ugly Bill

Titus’ bipartisan FAIR BET Act reinstates 100% deductions for gambling losses

Nevadans are seeing walltowall coverage of how Dina Titus is fighting to protect Las Vegas’ economy from a provision in Republicans’ Big, Ugly Bill that unfairly caps how much gamblers can deduct for their losses.

The Big, Ugly Bill could force people to pay taxes on money they never even saw, which could drive gamblers underground and hurt Nevada’s local economies.

Titus’ fix has earned bipartisan support in the House.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Dina Titus is fighting to deliver a common-sense solution that will protect Nevada’s local economies from Republicans’ disastrous Tax Scam. Titus is a proven champion for Las Vegas families, workers, and businesses.”

See for yourself…

  • Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus’s bill to reverse a tax change contained in the Republican tax-and-spending bill is getting bipartisan support, both inside and outside Nevada.
  • What will happen starting in 2026, according to the provisions put in place by President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, is a 90 percent deduction, which means if someone wins $100,000 but loses $100,000 for the year, they will have to pay taxes on $10,000.
  • Titus has brought aboard Republicans who have made a point of being loyal to Trump.
  • “It’s an easy fix and it’s nonpartisan,” she said. “I’m not trying to turn this into any ideological argument. I just think it’s a fair tax fix.”
  • “Tax policy is supposed to be fair. You’re not supposed to pay income tax on income you don’t get.”
  • “My FAIR BET Act would rightfully restore the full deduction for losses so gamblers don’t pay taxes on money they haven’t won,” Titus said Monday. “It gives everyone — from recreational gamblers to high-stakes gamblers — a fair shake.”
  • She said the government “should be encouraging players to properly report their winnings and wager using legal operators,” and suggested that the recent changes “will only push people to not report their winnings and to use unregulated platforms.”
  • The American Gaming Association, the gambling industry’s lobbying organization… is also backing FAIR BET.”The American Gaming Association applauds Congresswoman Titus for introducing the FAIR BET Act,” the organization said in a statement to ESPN. “We are committed to working with Congresswoman Titus, other congressional leaders, and the Trump Administration to restore the long-standing tax treatment of gaming losses.”
  • “No one should have to pay taxes on money they didn’t win,” said Rep. Dina Titus (D., Nev), who represents Las Vegas and has introduced a bill to restore and permanently extend the 100% loss deduction, with Republican support.
  • Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus is presenting the FAIR BET Act, an amendment to the bill that would address the issue and reinstate the ability to deduct 100 percent of losses from their betting record.
