In sign of a fractured Republican Party, Logan declined to talk directly about former President Donald J. Trump.
Asked by The Courant if he would campaign with Trump in Connecticut if they are both on the ballot in 2024, Logan responded, “Look, Republicans are going to decide who the nominee is. My goal right now is to win the 5th Congressional seat. Look, the only endorsements I’m looking for are from the voters in the 5th Congressional District.”
Democrats note that Trump has been vulnerable in the 5th district, losing there in 2016 to Hillary Rodham Clinton and in 2020 to Joe Biden. With a high voter turnout expected in 2024, Democrats believe they have the wind at their back in a district where Democrats have won the seat every two years since Chris Murphy defeated longtime Republican incumbent Nancy Johnson in a stunning upset in 2006.
