Does Don Bacon Agree With County GOP That Hydroxychloroquine is a “Promising” COVID Treatment?

Last night, the Douglas County Republican Party in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District came under fire for tweets promoting the use of hydroxychloroquine, with their spokesperson later saying: “there are studies that are coming out that are showing that it could show some promise.”

As a reminder, the FDA revoked its emergency authorization for the drug after studies consistently showed this drug is not effective, with one study finding that the drug is linked to increased risk of death in coronavirus patients.

But clearly that stopped neither the Douglas County GOP from siding with fringe scientists — including one who believes that people need deliverance from demon sperm — and with President Trump to promote the dangerous drug.

“With the Douglas County GOP spouting dangerously false arguments that there are ‘benefits to hydroxychloroquine,’ Don Bacon must answer if he will side with his party and President Trump or if he will he finally grow a backbone and join scientists in declaring this drug ineffective,” said DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer. “When it comes to public safety during a global pandemic, our leaders must listen to scientists and promote only the facts. Bacon’s silence shows he will always put his political self-interest over what’s right, which is exactly why Nebraskans will vote him out in November.”
