To kick off Women’s History Month, Don Bacon went on the record to double down on his support of efforts to restrict women’s freedoms nationwide.
Despite a clear majority of Americans saying Congress should work to protect abortion at the federal level, Bacon is praising extreme Republican efforts to limit abortion freedoms and even asserts that “there’s a role at the federal level” in further restricting women’s access to care.
His admission comes in direct opposition to his own Nebraskan voters as well, and just a week after extremists in the Nebraska state legislature moved forward on a bill that would effectively ban abortion and could lead to a health care “desert.” Additionally, that legislation does not make clear whether exceptions for rape would be protected.
Bacon has a clear track record of pushing dangerous abortion restrictions in Congress. No matter how hard he tries, he will never be the “moderate” he pretends to be.
DCCC Spokesperson Jacob Haythorn:
“Don Bacon clearly hasn’t been paying attention if he doesn’t know where the majority of Americans stand on protecting abortion rights. Anti-abortion extremists like Bacon have become dangerously mainstream in the GOP, and remain a serious threat to women’s freedoms and safety.”
ICYMI – Don Bacon’s record on abortion:
Joining 227 other Republican members of Congress in signing an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe.
Co-sponsoring a federal abortion ban that would not make exceptions for rape or when the life of an individual is at risk.
