After outside groups spent at least $1.3 million trying to save him from a primary challenger who barely raised any money, Don Bacon still had his weakest showing ever in a primary election, with more Republican primary voters casting ballots against him than ever before.
Despite Bacon bragging about internal polling that had him leading by over 50 points in the Republican primary, the margin was less than half of that.
Bacon is now entering the general election with:
Republican and nonpartisan voters continuing to flee his campaign after Tony Vargas substantially overperformed with them last cycle
Vargas leading him by three points, including leading by double digits with nonpartisan voters
After Bacon has spent years caving to his MAGA party bosses to give handouts to big corporations and raise taxes for middle class families, ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions, and gut affordable health care, it’s no wonder Republicans, Democrats, and nonpartisans alike are rejecting Don Bacon.
DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
“Numbers don’t lie – Don Bacon is more vulnerable than ever. That’s what happens when you become a spineless politician who would rather cave to his party bosses than stand up for working families in Nebraska. Bacon’s record of selling out to extremists, attacking reproductive health care, and raising costs for the middle class will cost him his seat in November.”
