Don Bacon and 15 of his fake moderate colleagues in the Republican Conference are out with yet another meaningless letter – this time begging the Senate to scale back aggressive cuts to Medicaid. Yet this comes just weeks after he cast the deciding vote to enact the largest cut to Medicaid in American history.
Don Bacon is hoping this letter will save him from backlash over voting to gut health care for millions of Americans, as the Senate considers lowering the provider tax on states — a move that would cause even more people to lose coverage.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the Bacon-backed House-version of the GOP Tax Scam would result in 16 million people uninsured by gutting Medicaid and failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. In addition, nearly 24 million people will see their monthly health care costs increase and over 300 rural hospitals could close.
In Bacon’s district alone, more than 23,000 of his constituents are set to lose their health care coverage thanks to his critical vote to fund tax breaks for the wealthiest people in the country.
Bacon repeatedly claimed that he would not support major cuts to Medicaid only to then turn around and vote to gut Medicaid funding by nearly $800 billion.
DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“Enough with the meaningless letters. Bacon already voted for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history after promising he wouldn’t support major cuts. When the time comes, he will cave to his D.C. party bosses once again to give his billionaire donors a massive tax break. Don Bacon continues to leave a trail of broken promises on his way out the door.”
