Don Bacon Sells Out Nebraskan Families and Farmers to Make Room for Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Last night, Don Bacon voted to slash funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that helps feed thousands of families across Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. The Republican bill would cut nearly $300 billion from the program relied on by over 23,000 households in Bacon’s district, over 50% of which have children.

Bacon’s vote also threatens the livelihoods of Nebraskan farmers and ranchers. As one of the largest agricultural producers in the country, Nebraska’s farmers would bear the brunt of the nationally estimated $30 billion in lost revenue as SNAP participants pare back their food spending.

Bacon previously stated that he opposed cuts to SNAP only to provide a critical vote for extremist House Republicans as they seek to pass their enormous tax breaks for the wealthy on the backs of everyday Nebraskans.

DCCC Spokesperson Madison Andrus:
“Don Bacon says one thing to his constituents then turns around and does another when he’s back in Washington. Bacon talks a big game, pretending to buck Republican party leadership but at the end of the day, he’s just another rubber stamp for an extremist agenda that puts billionaires above Nebraska’s families and farmers.”
