| In the latest of a series of unhinged ramblings, Donald Trump demonstrated that his memory is still consistently escaping him, forgetting Congressman Don Davis’ proven record of showing up and delivering real results for eastern North Carolina at every turn.
While Congressman Davis is focused on real solutions to the problems facing the people of NC-01, Trump has chosen to lie to North Carolina’s working families about Davis’ record because he knows that no one can beat Davis on the merits.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane…
Claim #1: “Don Davis voted against no tax on overtime” / “voted against no tax on tips”
Reality: Congressman Davis has actively supported tax relief for working people – not tax increases. He introduced H.R. 6295, a bill that would permanently end taxes on tips unlike House Republicans’ temporary bandaid solution.
Claim #2: “He voted for the largest tax increase in American history”
Reality: The “Big, Ugly Bill” that House Republicans championed would raise costs for working families across the board. Congressman Davis voted against devastating cuts to Medicaid and against closing North Carolina’s rural hospitals. Congressman Davis would never support a bill that would strip hundreds of billions of dollars from rural health care and local economies over the next decade.
Claim #3: “He voted yes on every single Biden disaster— inflation, open borders, sanctuary cities, Green New Scam”
Reality: Since taking office in January 2023, Congressman Davis has consistently been one of the most bipartisan members of Congress, voting with Republicans on border security and immigration policy 90 percent of the time (28 out of 31 floor votes under a special rule). Congressman Davis was awarded the 2025 Democracy Award for the “Best of Bipartisan Engagement and Collaboration.”
Claim #4: “Don Davis did nothing about the flood. He did nothing about the hurricane.”
Reality: While House Republicans have dragged their feet and abandoned hurricane victims, Congressman Davis has been committed to helping North Carolina rebuild after Hurricane Helene. The Congressman introduced the FEMA Administrative Reform Act which would speed up the flow of federal aid to the state by cutting through the bureaucratic red-tape that Donald Trump and Kristi Noem imposed on survivors.
Claim #5: “I did it all… with a couple of Republicans from your state.”
Reality: Congressman Davis has been a key part of the bipartisan disaster recovery efforts. He introduced the bipartisan Restoring Access to Mountain Homes Act, which allows FEMA to reimburse repairs to private roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Helene, critical in a region where nearly half of all roads are private and more than 7,000 were damaged. He also co-led bipartisan legislation with Republican Congressman Tim Moore to fix failures in the SBA disaster loan program that delayed aid to Helene-impacted communities. These bills rebuild infrastructure, support small businesses, and hold federal agencies accountable, clear evidence of real, bipartisan action.
Claim #6: “I never even heard of this guy… he hasn’t made a big impact.”
Reality: Congressman Don Davis has consistently delivered measurable, concrete results for eastern North Carolina. He voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, securing a 3.8% pay raise for servicemembers and major authorizations supporting Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, installations central to the region’s economy, military readiness, and national security. He also supported the Senate amendment to H.R. 5371, a bill that extends the National Flood Insurance Program, Community Health Centers, and delivers more than $48 million for projects directly benefiting eastern North Carolina. That is real impact regardless of who claims they’ve never heard of him.
