Now that notorious anti-worker extremist John Duarte has hand-picked Javier Lopez and donated the maximum amount to his campaign for California’s 13th Congressional District – it’s clear: Lopez is Duarte’s choice to continue carrying out his extreme agenda. And that should alarm every Central Valley voter.
On top of his own record of attacking Social Security, Duarte admitted he was “not that far” from the House Freedom Caucus – a band of far-right extremists best known for pushing proposals to make devastating cuts and changes to programs Californians depend on, including Medicare and Social Security.
Now, Lopez’s friends in Congress are championing their Big, Ugly Law, which D.C. Republicans admitted was a “backdoor for privatizing Social Security.” If that weren’t enough, the Administration is moving to cut disability benefits – the latest in a pattern of Republican cruelty to dismantle vital safety nets.
So where does Lopez stand? He refuses to say– but Duarte’s full-throated backing speaks volumes.
DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“John Duarte and new kid on the block Javier Lopez are birds of a feather – and voters should expect Lopez to back the same brand of far-right extremism that threatens Social Security and Medicare, hurting California families. The people of California’s 13th rejected this craziness once – and they will again.”
