The AZ-02 GOP primary debate yesterday was nothing short of a spectacle as candidates fought to out-extreme one another. But one candidate didn’t show up: NRCC-backed Eli Crane, who left voters to wonder where he stands on pressing issues to Arizonans.
On protecting access to safe, legal abortion:
-
NRCC-backed candidate Walt Blackman stated women who get an abortion, and doctors who perform them, should be prosecuted.
-
QAnon candidate Ron Watkins said anyone who chooses to get an abortion “need[s] to go before a judge and a jury as a homicide.”
On if the 2020 presidential election was stolen:
-
To no surprise from the man believed to be the Q in Qanon, Watkins falsely claimed the 2020 election was stolen and called for election decertification.
-
Blackman also falsely stated the 2020 election was stolen.
On the topic of the January 6 Capitol attack:
On Social Security for Arizona seniors:
-
Watkins refused to commit to protecting Social Security for the younger generation, even if they’ve been paying into it their entire working lives.
-
Blackman supported privatizing Social Security, a move that would risk Arizona seniors’ guaranteed retirement benefits on the stock market.
These are some of the bedrock issues serving as the Arizona Republican Party’s litmus test – but Eli Crane has yet to answer. Does Eli Crane agree with these disgusting, dangerous, and draconian views?
“Arizonans deserve to know where each and every one of the AZ-02 GOP candidates stand on these issues,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “Republicans have made it clear that they seek to attack women, are willing to tout conspiracy theories, and are dismissive of violence. Their race toward extremism will only make them more unelectable come November.”
