Schweikert’s legal fees rack up to nearly $1 million since 2018
Yesterday marked the quarterly FEC filing day for all congressional candidates, or as embattled Congressman David Schweikert must think of it: a quarterly reminder that his embarrassing campaign for Congress is in shambles.
In Q2, Schweikert raised a paltry $199,240, and ended the quarter with only $125,459 cash on hand, once you subtract his ever mounting debt. But even worse, he’s spent 95% of the money he raised this quarter already, with $95,583 of that sum going to legal fees as the House Ethics Committee continues to investigate his shady finances.
This stands in stark contrast to Dr. Hiral Tipirneni who raised $665,315 in the second quarter and heads into the final 4 months of the election with $1.65 million in the bank, holding the largest cash on hand advantage over a Republican incumbent in the country.
“Embattled Congressman David Schweikert is facing an increasingly uphill battle for re-election thanks to his paltry fundraising, ever-present campaign debt, and huge campaign spending on legal fees to combat an looming House Ethics Committee investigation,” said DCCC Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer. “While Schweikert focuses on avoiding legal consequences, he’s left Arizonans completely out to dry as they struggle through a pandemic with no real leadership. Thankfully, soon Arizonans will elect the honest, representative leadership of Dr. Hiral Tipirneni.”
