Evans-Backed Shutdown Is Ripping Food Off of Coloradans’ Tables

“A world of pain is about to start”

On day 23 of the Republican shutdown, millions of hardworking Americans are at risk of losing SNAP benefits that help them put food on their families’ tables — and it’s all because of Gabe Evans and House Republicans.

As House Republicans, including Evans, refuse to come to the negotiating table to end their shutdown, states like Colorado are announcing they’ll soon be forced to cut off food aid and other programs families rely on. Panic is already setting in in Evans’ district, including in Weld County:

  • “Jamie Ulrich directs the Weld County Department of Human Services. She said about 40,000 clients in her county won’t get their benefits at the start of the month. ‘They’re just really unsure what this is going to look like. Again, people really rely on these benefits to keep their families fed, so it’s a scary time for them. We’re also getting a lot of questions about ‘where can I go?’ ‘What can I do?’” [Colorado Public Radio, 10/23/25]
  • “In Colorado, the Department of Human Services said the state ‘is unable to issue the approximately $120 million of November SNAP benefits to clients until the federal government restores funding.’ Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, is asking the state legislature for $10 million for food banks to try to make up for the shortfall. Colorado has 614,000 residents on SNAP.” [Punchbowl News, 10/23/25]

REMINDER: Evans voted for the largest cuts to SNAP in history earlier this year, making Coloradans pay more for their groceries. Now, he is doubling down on their cruelty and holding this key program hostage that feeds Coloradans and keeps food affordable hostage.

DCCC Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly:
“Gabe Evans couldn’t be more clear about how little he cares about working Coloradans. More food is about to be ripped off people’s tables because of Republicans’ shutdown, and he can’t even be bothered to work on reopening the government to keep grocery costs from rising. Voters will remember his cruelty at the ballot box.”
