#EvasiveElise Stefanik: Welcome to the #TrumpTicket

Despite evading Trump, Stefanik’s nightmare has become reality

With Trump’s primary victory last night in Indiana, and Ted Cruz’s withdrawal from the presidential race, #EvasiveElise Stefanik now faces a nightmarish scenario this November: sharing the ticket with Donald Trump.

And it’s clear that as the nominee, Trump will continue to put #EvasiveElise between a rock and a hard place:

  • In January, North Country Public Radio reported, “Stefanik said she doesn’t think ‘Donald Trump will be the nominee’ at the top of the GOP ticket.”
  • Stefanik denounced Trump’s demeaning rhetoric towards Muslims as “not according to our constitutional principle,” and added, “I associate myself with Speaker Ryan’s comment just saying there is no place for what Trump said about Muslims in this country.”
  • Stefanik dodged simple and important questions on whether or not she would support Trump as commander-in-chief.
  • She gave tired excuses for her hypocritical déjà vu of taking the same neutral position that she attacked her opponent on in 2014.
  • She even announced that she was sitting out of her party’s national convention.

Despite all of this, a Stefanik spokesperson said that she “looks forward to supporting the Republican nominee this fall.”

“Now that Donald Trump is the presumptive nominee, Evasive Elise Stefanik should get the talking points ready for defending Trump and his dangerous views that insult women, trample on the Constitution and make America less safe,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Stefanik has been avoiding reality and evading the Trump topic, but no amount of distancing and side-stepping can change the fact that Stefanik is on the Trump ticket and her party has paved the way for his nomination.”
