Even Conservative Radio Show Hosts Are Fed Up With Hinson’s Dodging

After she railed against the deficit, Simon Conway calls Ashley Hinson out for “sidestepping” on whether she would vote to raise the debt limit

Since launching her campaign last May, Ashley Hinson has consistently dodged questions and refused to discuss where she stands on key issues like her party’s efforts to get rid of the Affordable Care Act and whether she believes that Medicare should be able to negotiate lower prescription costs for all Americans. According to an investigation by the New York Times, the few policy positions she has put out were largely stolen from other sources like the Des Moines Register, CNBC, and her opponent’s own website.

Now, even conservative radio hosts in Iowa are fed up with Hinson’s platitudes. In an interview yesterday, Simon Conway pushed Hinson to say whether she would vote to raise debt limit after she railed against the national debt. Yet, as has become her habit, Hinson gave “a very nice sidestep,” refusing to take a real position on the issue.

From the Simon Conway Show:

[…]

SIMON CONWAY: Well let me ask you this question. Let me ask you this question. Because I accept that from you, I absolutely accept that from you. Will you ever vote to increase the debt limit ever?

ASHLEY HINSON: Will I ever vote? Well I think, unfortunately, you get, you get locked in sometimes with packages. They sometimes include provisions like that if you’re making a deal with a different chamber which is what we’ve seen happen in Washington DC…

CONWAY: Okay, I would like to give you a nice little smattering of applause there because that was a very nice sidestep. But the reality is –

HINSON: But the reality is when you are negotiating packages like this especially in split control, sometimes those things are included, the deal is done. I’m just, you know how government works…

CONWAY: Okay. Uh, I mean I accept your answer, I would have a different one. I would just say, no. I will never vote to increase the debt limit ever.

“Ashley Hinson’s shady dodges and double-speak represent everything Iowans hate about Washington. With less than three months until election day, it’s time for Hinson to stop parroting the canned talking points written by her D.C. consultants and start being honest with voters on where she stands on the issues that matter most to them,” said DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
