Even with Statewide Protections, Coloradans Already Witnessing the Dangers of Kirkmeyer and Aadland’s Anti-Abortion Extremism

Yesterday, in the Denver Post, Colorado-based OBGYN Dr. Emily Schneider illustrated the dire conditions of Colorado’s reproductive health care system following the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade and Republicans’ nationwide attacks on abortion access. Even with statewide protections for abortion access in Colorado, draconian abortion bans in red states are forcing women to travel across state lines to receive life-saving care; perilously increasing delays in care for Coloradans.

Dr. Schneider writes “the Dobbs decision means life as we know it has been turned upside down in the reproductive health care world.” Both Republican nominees for Colorado’s 7th and 8th Congressional Districts cheered the overturn of Roe this summer. This is the dystopian and dangerous world Erik Aadland and Barbara Kirkmeyer want to inflict on Coloradans.

Both candidates support the government imposing abortion bans – without exceptions for rape. As extreme House Republicans prepare to pursue an abortion ban if they claim a majority in the House this November, the election of anti-abortion candidates Erik Aadland and Barbara Kirkmeyer would put congressional Republicans one step closer to their goal of imposing a nationwide abortion ban to override Colorado’s state protections.

“After the Dobbs decision, Coloradans are already being subjected to the dangerous reality of Erik Aadland and Barbara Kirkmeyer’s anti-abortion views,” said DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy. “Coloradans cannot afford to elevate these extremists and put House Republicans one step closer to their goal of banning abortion outright in Colorado and across our country.”
