Every Single Vulnerable California Republican Puts New Extreme Speaker and His Agenda Over Californians

Today, Kevin Kiley, John Duarte, David Valadao, Mike Garcia, Young Kim, Ken Calvert, and Michelle Steel elected Rep. Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House. After churning through a slew of other candidates, they went all in for Johnson and his extremism.

In case you haven’t heard of him, here’s a bit about Johnson:

• Johnson pushed for a total abortion ban without exceptions – claiming the overturning of Roe v. Wade would be the “the greatest day of [his] life” – and voted for legislation to punish doctors for providing essential reproductive care…even cheering on calls for their imprisonment with hard labor for performing the procedure.

• Johnson served as the chair of the Republican Study Committee, leading their efforts to slash Social Security and Medicare.

• Johnson was instrumental in the plan to overturn the 2020 election – the New York Times named him “the most important architect of the Electoral College objections.”

The state’s most vulnerable Republicans have completely abandoned working families in California, siding with election deniers, anti-abortion extremists, and relentless attacks on Social Security and Medicare.
