Only two weeks after House Republicans advanced the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to give tax breaks for their billionaire donors, voters are increasingly souring on the Big, Ugly Bill.
The GOP Tax Scam would result in 16 million people uninsured by gutting Medicaid and failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. Hospitals will close and nearly 24 million people will see their monthly health care costs increase as a result.
Now, voters across the House battlefield and nationwide are repulsed, according to separate polling from Navigator Research and KFF.
Navigator Research finds the GOP Tax Scam is underwater by a 12-point margin. Even worse, the Republican argument is falling flat: a plurality of voters think their taxes and costs will INCREASE because of the billionaires-first tax scheme.
Separately, KFF finds most of the American public – including self-identified Republicans – are worried about the consequences of cuts to Medicaid.
Both polls align with recent research from the DCCC and DSCC revealing that messaging calling out Republican cuts to health care and food assistance programs to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy are the most effective when communicating with voters.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“House Republicans have broken their campaign promise to lower the cost of living. With every passing day and new poll, it’s clear that advancing the largest cut to Medicaid in history to give a tax break to their billionaire donors is wildly unpopular and will cost Republicans the House majority next year.”
