Extreme Candidates Cost House Republicans in 2022, NRCC On Track for Further Embarrassment in 2024

In 2022, House Republicans suffered the worst midterm performance by a party not in power since 1962, thanks in part to House Republicans’ extreme, unelectable candidates running in swing districts. Kevin McCarthy’s Super PAC, Congressional Leadership Fund, tried to stop some candidates from making it through Republican primaries but failed miserably, spending nearly $5 million on losers.

Now, with just five seats to spare and headwinds shifting against House Republicans, the NRCC will likely have yet another candidate quality problem as extreme candidates like Joe Kent (WA-03), J.R. Majewski (OH-09), Scott Baugh (CA-47), and Yvette Herrell (NM-02) plot to run again.

Whether or not the NRCC adds these candidates to their “Young Gun” list or snubs them for a preferred choice, voters will once again reject these conspiracy theory touting, extreme candidates.

DCCC spokesperson Tommy Garcia:
“It appears that NRCC Chair Richard Hudson is planning to continue Tom Emmer’s tradition of recruiting weak and extreme candidates who are unelectable in swing districts. While extreme and dangerous conspiracy theorists might fit in well with the House Republicans’ caucus, they do not sit well with swing voters.”
