Extreme MAGA New York Republicans Protected Serial Fraudster George Santos

From The Hill to the Washington Examiner, the new video has quickly drawn attention

The DCCC released a new video today reminding New Yorkers that extreme MAGA New York Republicans Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams protected serial liar George Santos.

The video, which was released on the day criminally-indicted Republican George Santos was originally scheduled to appear in federal court, calls out LaLota, D’Esposito, Lawler, Molinaro, and Williams for stalling the effort to expel serial liar Santos by referring the expulsion resolution to the House Ethics Committee – caving once again to MAGA extremists’ desperate attempts to hold on to the GOP’s slim, chaotic majority.

Punchbowl: DCCC targets N.Y. Republicans

  • The DCCC is targeting a group of vulnerable New York House Republicans, accusing the members of protecting scandal-ridden Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.). A new video by the House Democratic campaign arm takes aim at GOP Reps. Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Nick LaLota, Brandon Williams and Anthony D’Esposito.

  • The Santos issue is a political liability for the endangered New York Republicans. All have called for the freshman to resign. But the video highlights the fact the GOP members opposed a measure that would have forced a vote to expel Santos.

The Hill: House Democrats accuse vulnerable NY Republicans of supporting Santos

  • The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) put out a video Thursday attacking five New York Republican House members for not moving to expel embattled Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.).

  • The video, from the campaign arm of House Democrats, takes aim at New York Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, Brandon Williams, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro and Nick LaLota. All five of them voted to refer a resolution of Santos’s expulsion to the House Ethics Panel in May, despite previous criticism of him.

  • “Nick LaLota, Anthony D’Esposito, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams turned their backs on New Yorkers by voting to protect an admitted criminal — making it crystal clear they stand with MAGA extremists over New York voters,” DCCC spokesperson Ellie Dougherty said in a statement attached to a press release on the video.

  • The Hill has reached out to the GOP members named in the ad for comment.

Washington Examiner: Democrats weaponize Santos against vulnerable New York Republicans in new ad

  • House Democrats are launching their latest attacks against vulnerable Republicans in New York, seeking to tie a group of freshman lawmakers to one of the party’s greatest perceived liabilities: Rep. George Santos (R-NY).

  • The ad includes quotes from each of the congressmen calling on Santos to resign or be removed from office after it was discovered he had lied about his background while running for Congress. The video then criticizes the five lawmakers for failing to help expel Santos earlier this year when House Democrats brought forth a resolution to do so. They instead agreed to refer the expulsion resolution to the Ethics Committee, a move House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) framed as a matter of “due process.”

  • The DCCC released the ad on Thursday, coinciding with the original date Santos was scheduled to appear in court after being federally indicted on 13 criminal charges, including fraud and lying to Congress. The Department of Justice asked to delay that hearing until the end of October as the parties continue to discuss “possible paths forward,” raising speculation about a plea deal.

  • McCarthy said the matter would be referred to the Ethics Committee for a 60-day review, which expired before Congress adjourned for its annual August recess. The status of that review remains unclear, and a spokesperson for the committee declined to comment when asked by the Washington Examiner last month.
