Extreme MAGA Republicans are work-shopping a debt ceiling proposal that would hurt families in Republican-leaning states more than Democratic-leaning states, according to a new analysis from Reuters.
The latest proposal – which still has not been formally made public – includes raising taxes on lower-income Americans, stiffening work requirements for food stamp beneficiaries, and slashing funding for programs that administer Social Security benefits to America’s seniors.
The House Republican plan that would disproportionately hurt families in states Donald Trump won in 2020 once again proves that extreme MAGA Republicans are more concerned with party loyalty than the needs of working families.
“House Democrats are working tirelessly to prevent a catastrophic default that will hurt everyday families,” said Justin Chermol, a spokesperson for Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the DCCC. “Meanwhile, extreme MAGA Republicans are wrangling together a last-ditch debt ceiling proposal that would be disastrous for working families by creating work requirements to receive food assistance and adding red-tape to federal agencies that administer Social Security benefits.”
Yesterday, the DCCC published similar press releases targeting vulnerable House Republicans in states Donald Trump won in 2020, including Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), María Elvira Salazar (FL-27), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), Zach Nunn (IA-03), Ryan Zinke (MT-01), Don Bacon (NE-02), and Monica De La Cruz (TX-15).
