McCarthy and Scalise Abandon Constituents Slammed By Hurricanes & Wildfires, Vote To Shut Down Government
Motivated by their toxic and dangerous political agenda, extremist Republican ringleaders Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise voted to shut down the U.S. government on Thursday, and deny constituents in their districts critical disaster relief from the impact of Hurricane Ida and California wildfires.
Republicans’ toxic political agenda continues to have dangerous consequences for the American people. From lying about the effectiveness of vaccines and pushing junk science that is prolonging the pandemic, to peddling the Big Lie leading to the deadly January 6th insurrection, Republicans are showing the American people that they’re just too irresponsible and dangerous for American families. Now Scalise and McCarthy are even politicizing disaster relief for their own constituents devastated by historic hurricanes and wildfires.
DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor
“Motivated by their dangerous and toxic political gamesmanship, House Republicans Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise voted to both shutdown government and deny disaster relief to their own constituents in California and Louisiana. McCarthy and Scalise voted to abandon their own constituents slammed by natural disasters that took American lives, wrecked communities, and upended livelihoods. Thankfully, House Democrats are prioritizing the needs of the American people and their constituents instead of playing political games that leave behind Americans in their time of need.”
